I use a growth mindset model. Using positive reinforcement, I encourage the children to learn from their mistakes and teach them strategies that help them to grow as a learner and as a friend. I also provide a “Take a Break” area, which is a proactive way to avoid the frustration that could lead to behavior concerns. If a student feels sad about something or starts to feel overwhelmed while working, he/she picks a calming activity to do for 1 minute, then gets back on track.
